About us

A mother & daughter practice, rooted in real experience.

We’re Sally and Felicity Catlin, the mother-and-daughter team behind Catlin Hypnotherapy in Thames Ditton, Surrey.

We came to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy by different paths, but for the same reason: a genuine interest in people, and a real desire to help them move forward.

Our understanding comes from professional training as well as our own life experiences. We both know what it’s like to go through challenging periods, work through them, and come out the other side — and it’s part of why we believe so strongly in focusing not just on what’s difficult, but on where you want to go next.

Our approach is warm, practical and relaxed. There’s no judgement, and no expectation to have everything figured out before you arrive — we’ll take things from there together.

Sessions are available in person in Thames Ditton or online.

Sally

Clinical Psychotherapist & Solution Focused Hypnotherapist

Hi, I’m Sally, a Clinical Psychotherapist and Solution Focused Hypnotherapist with a genuine passion for helping people make positive changes and get more from their lives.

Alongside my hypnotherapy practice, I’ve been the Principal of performing arts schools in London for over 25 years. During that time, I’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of young people and their families, from nursery age through to university and beyond.

My work has always been about far more than performing arts. I’ve watched children grow into confident young adults, helped people recognise their strengths and, over the years, apparently become “second Mum” to quite a few of my students — their words, not mine! Those experiences have taught me how important it is to make people of all ages feel comfortable, understood and able to be themselves.

Training & experience

My academic and professional background reflects my longstanding interest in people and how we think. I hold qualifications in Psychology, Philosophy, Psychotherapy and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, alongside BA (Hons) degrees in Drama and Sociology.

I trained with CPHT, gaining a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and the Level 4 Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD). I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am fully insured. I’m also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and the National Hypnotherapy Society.

Why hypnotherapy?

My own introduction to hypnotherapy came in the mid-90s, when I was an avid smoker — so much so that I was known around the office as “Fag Ash Lil”! After experiencing hypnotherapy myself, I stopped smoking and haven’t touched a cigarette since.

Life has brought its share of challenges too, including periods of chronic anxiety and cancer. Those experiences have given me a personal understanding of how overwhelming life can sometimes feel and strengthened my desire to help other people move forward.

My approach

I work with children, teenagers and adults, and my approach is warm, friendly, positive and non-judgemental. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself and never pressured or rushed.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy particularly appealed to me because it focuses on your strengths, where you want to be and the manageable steps that can help you get there. We work together at a pace that feels right for you.

Outside of my practice, I love theatre, film, writing, travelling, Pilates, spending time in nature and, most importantly, being Mum to my three grown-up children.

I’d love the opportunity to work with you and help you move towards the changes you’d like to see in your life.

Felicity Catlin, Solution Focused Hypnotherapist in Thames Ditton, Surrey

Felicity

Clinical Psychotherapist & Solution Focused Hypnotherapist

Hi, I’m Felicity, a Clinical Psychotherapist and Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. I’ve always been fascinated by people, psychology and why our minds work the way they do.

I studied Psychology at A Level and had a place to continue studying it at a leading university, but ultimately decided that I wanted a more hands-on path. I wanted to work directly with people, build real-world experience and turn my interest in psychology into something practical.

I also grew up in the performing arts, starting classes at just three years old and later working in the industry for many years. Being surrounded by children, teenagers and adults with completely different personalities taught me a lot about people from a young age — and particularly about confidence, self-belief and how differently we can all experience the same situations.

Training & experience

My background in Psychology led naturally into my professional training in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy with CPHT.

Through my training and clinical practice, I’ve worked with people of different ages and backgrounds, supporting a variety of individual challenges and goals. I particularly enjoy working with children, teenagers and young adults, but also work with adults of all ages.

I’m also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and the National Hypnotherapy Society, and I’m fully insured.

Why hypnotherapy?

My interest in this work is personal as well as professional. I know what it’s like to go through periods when you don’t quite feel like yourself, and how frustrating it can be when you want things to change but aren’t quite sure how to get there.

That’s a big part of what drew me to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. I loved that the focus wasn’t on endlessly analysing everything that had gone wrong, but on understanding what’s happening, recognising what’s already working and looking at where you want to go next.

My approach

My approach is calm, friendly and relaxed. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what to say, and you certainly don’t need to have everything figured out beforehand.

I want sessions to feel like somewhere you can be yourself, talk openly and work towards what you want to change without feeling judged or pressured.

Outside of hypnotherapy, I love Pilates, running and long walks, writing and video editing, and I’m always happy with a good film or TV series.

If you feel like something in your life could be different, but you’re not quite sure where to start, I’d love to help you work out what moving forward could look like for you.

The approach

Move forward, rather than pick over the past.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is future-focused. In sessions we talk about what you’d like more of, notice the small evidence that it’s already happening, and build from there. Each session ends with gentle hypnosis, so your brain can consolidate those changes.

This means sessions rarely feel heavy. Most people leave feeling lighter than when they arrived — and each week that effect builds.

Working with us

Two therapists, one shared approach.

Choosing a therapist is personal. As a mother-and-daughter practice, we each bring different personalities, experiences and perspectives, so you can choose whoever you naturally feel most comfortable with.

Whichever of us you work with, you can expect the same warm, supportive and non-judgemental approach, focused on helping you move towards the life you’d like to be living.
